Keynote address, National Union of Students (NUS) Strategy Exchange, Belfast, December 3 2025
How can we build movements and effect change amid growing global challenges? Together. This was the core message during my remarks at the NUS Charity National Union of Students (UK) Strategy Exchange conference in Belfast.
Focused on the importance of relationships this two day event brought together senior leaders in the Student Union movement and experts to exchange ideas and experiences. Emma opened the conference with a message of hope, resilience, and values-based leadership - all critical aspects to the success of Northern Ireland’s peace process.
Sharing personal experience she charted her leadership journey from accidental activist to global civic leadership, this success was not achieved alone. You have to build your personal and professional networks, recognise the gaps in your own skills, and constantly challenge yourself and the reach of your mission.
Each and every person has the power to effect change, but it is not achieved in a vacuum, the key is community, collective action, and collaboration.
